About Skyelar
Nice to meet you!
Music administrator by day and composer late into the night, Skyelar Ginsberg is also an artist and freelancer currently based in Highland Park, IL. She received her B.A. in music from Carleton College in 2020 and her M.M. in music composition from SUNY Fredonia in 2023.
Skyelar’s interest in music began when she asked her mom for drumset lessons at four years old. (She was gently nudged away from the drums and toward the Zimbabwean marimba, which turned out to be just as obnoxious.) Since then, she’s moved on to composition; she loosely specializes in songwriting and musical theatre, but has also composed for instrumental soloists, small and large ensembles, chamber choir, and experimental vocalists. Her one-act musical, Camp Chaos, premiered in Fredonia in Spring of 2023, and she’s currently working on her second musical.
Though she isn’t currently accepting students, Skyelar will always love teaching, and is excited to return to it soon. Her teaching pedagogy is centered in individuality and inclusivity, and her primary goal is to provide the scaffolding her students need to make the music they want to make.
When she’s not making music, you can find Skyelar making sweaters for her cat, playing D&D, and trying out new soup recipes.
